Documentary of the week: Vinyl Record Making: The Sound And The Story (1956, RCA)
The entire process of recording and manufacturing gramophone records (phonograph records) in 1956 is explained. The Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Charles Munch is shown making a record. The performance is recorded on 1/4” magnetic tape after being mixed through a stereo 10 channel microphone mixer (although only 4 mics were in use, 2 on each channel). Then the vinyl record manufacturing process is shown.
